About …

With an emphasis on drawing, Mark Clements’ work pursues a dialogue between representation and abstraction. Each work becomes a space creating mechanism, a metaphorical journey, tracing the future and reconstructing the past. Spaces are disguised and then revealed creating a timeless, dislocated present.

The resulting images are intuitive and immediate responses to the vast vocabulary of one’s existence, inviting the viewer to examine and re-appraise the end result in the context of their own experience.

Bio: Mark Clements studied a Foundation course at Leeds College of Art, followed by Fine Art at Trent University, Nottingham and post-graduate studies in Art & Design History at UCE Birmingham.

As well as lecturing in the practice, history and theory of art, he has participated in numerous solo, selected and invited group exhibitions. In 2003 he co-founded the photo-based project Ambient Nation, and is now working on a body of work for future exhibition.
